Heat-tolerant vegetables like brinjal, chilli, cluster beans, and bitter gourd grow well year-round. Drumstick (moringa) thrives in Chennai's heat. Avoid cold-sensitive crops and plan sowing around the northeast monsoon (Oct–Dec).
January to March (post-monsoon, relatively dry and mild) is ideal for starting. July–August also works for fast-growing crops before the northeast monsoon arrives in October.
Apply neem oil spray (5 ml/litre) every 10–14 days as a preventive measure. Ensure pots drain freely, avoid wetting leaves during evening watering, and space plants at least 30 cm apart for airflow.
