Cherry trees will not bloom without adequate winter chilling (400–600 hours below 7°C). In UP plains where winters are shorter, choose the lowest chilling-requirement varieties like Stella or Garden Bing, and ensure the tree is sited in the coldest microclimate available — north-facing walls or valley positions maximize chilling hours.
