The Full Picture

Dianthus gets its nickname 'Pinks' not strictly from the color, but because the edges of the petals look like they were cut with pinking shears (zigzag scissors). They are incredibly robust plants. Their only real weakness is 'wet feet'โ€”if planted in heavy, poorly-draining soil, the crown of the plant will rot. Keep them in the sunniest spot you have, and enjoy the spicy, clove-like fragrance on cold winter mornings.
