The Full Picture

Unlike most cereals, ragi benefits enormously from transplanting rather than direct sowing. Raise seedlings in a nursery for 25–30 days (at 1/5th the final area), then transplant single seedlings at 20×20 cm spacing. Transplanting reduces seed requirement, gives better weed management, and typically yields 40–50% more than direct-sown crops in UP's conditions.
