Only heat-adapted crops survive Nagpur summers. From May to August, focus on bottle gourd, cluster beans, and okra. Shade cloth (50–70%) is essential from April onwards. Accept that May may be too hot for most vegetables.
October to February is the ideal window. Start tomato and chilli seedlings in August–September so they are established before the best growing months arrive.
Double-pot containers (one inside another with an air gap), paint outer pots white, and mulch heavily with dry coco peat or straw. Water before 7 AM only. A terrace shade structure (jali) dramatically reduces soil temperature.
Nagpur is famous for its oranges, and dwarf citrus varieties can be grown in large containers (20+ inch pots). They need full sun, excellent drainage, and a rest period in summer. Fruit in 3–4 years from grafted plants.
