Hordeum vulgare
Barley (Jau) is a hardy winter cereal. On a terrace, it is rarely grown to maturity for grain due to space constraints, but it is incredibly popular grown thickly in shallow trays to produce highly nutritious 'barley grass' for juicing. Dwarf varieties prevent flopping if grown out to grain.
