Start from
Guggul can be propagated by seeds or stem cuttings. Seed germination is poor (around 5%) due to a hard seed coat; mechanical scarification with sandpaper and soaking seeds in warm water for 24-48 hours can improve rates. Semi-hardwood stem cuttings (20-30 cm long) are a more common and successful method. Rooted cuttings are typically transplanted to their final location after 6-12 months.
About Guggul
Guggul, also known as Indian Bdellium, is a small, thorny tree or shrub native to the arid regions of India. It is highly prized for its oleo-gum-resin, which has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to treat various ailments such as arthritis, obesity, and high cholesterol. This hardy, drought-tolerant plant is relatively easy to grow once established, making it an excellent choice for Indian home/terrace growers and small farmers, especially in dry climatic conditions.
