Citrus sinensis
True sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), called 'Malta' across UP and North India and distinct from loose-skinned mandarins like Nagpur santra and Kinnow. Sweet oranges make sizeable trees, so they are the hardest citrus in this group for a terrace; the most home-garden-friendly North Indian option is Blood Red Malta, grown in a large bag with summer shade. Vigorous commercial types like Valencia are best left to the ground.
