How to grow French beans on a terrace?
French beans suit Indian terraces well. Use a 12-litre container for bush types; climbing types need a trellis. Sow seeds directly February–April or September–October. Space 4–6 inches apart. Water regularly but avoid waterlogging. Feed with low-nitrogen, high-phosphorus fertiliser at flowering. Bush varieties (Contender, Pusa Parvati) are ready in 50–55 days. Harvest pods young and stringless for best flavour and continued production.
