What is the difference between organic and chemical fertilizer?

Organic fertilisers (compost, mustard cake, vermicompost) release nutrients slowly, build soil microbial life, and improve drainage. Chemical fertilisers (urea, DAP, NPK) deliver nutrients immediately but can cause salt build-up in containers and harm beneficial microbes. For terrace container gardens, combining both — organic base with occasional chemical boost — works best.
