How many hours of sunlight do vegetables need?

Most fruiting vegetables (tomato, chilli, cucumber) need 6–8 hours of direct sunlight. Leafy greens (spinach, coriander, fenugreek) manage with 4–5 hours. In Indian summers, afternoon shade after 2 PM reduces heat stress without compromising growth significantly.
