What is a zaid crop and can I grow it on a terrace?

Zaid crops occupy the short summer gap between rabi harvest and kharif sowing — March through May. Ideal terrace zaid crops: cucumber, muskmelon, moong bean, and bitter gourd. They need full sun and frequent watering. Sow in March, harvest by mid-May before monsoon onset complicates operations.
