What to start before the monsoon in May–June?

Start kharif seedlings 4–6 weeks before your local monsoon onset. In North India (monsoon arrives late June), raise tomato, chilli, brinjal, and gourd seedlings in May under shade nets. Transplant immediately after first monsoon rains soften the soil. Plants establish quickly with natural rainfall support.
