Are diseased vegetables safe to eat?

Most fungal and bacterial plant diseases do not affect humans. Minor spots or blemishes on tomatoes, cucumbers, or brinjal can be cut away — the rest is safe to eat. However, discard vegetables with heavy mould growth, visible rot, or from plants infected with viral disease as fruit quality degrades significantly.
