How to make self-watering pots at home?

Place a smaller pot inside a larger one, with a 5 cm water reservoir between them. Thread a cotton wick from the soil down into the reservoir. Fill the reservoir via a side tube. Refill every 3–5 days — halves watering frequency for Indian terrace gardens.
