How to grow ginger at home in India?

Ginger is ideal for Indian terraces. Plant fresh rhizomes (from a vegetable market) in a wide, shallow container (10 inches deep) February–April. Each rhizome should have at least one growth bud. Cover with 2 inches of soil. Keep moist but not waterlogged. Partial shade preferred in peak summer. Mulch heavily. Harvest after 8–10 months when leaves yellow and die back. Fresh young ginger can be harvested earlier at 4–5 months.
