How to choose healthy seedlings at the nursery?

Look for dark green compact leaves, thick stems, and multiple side shoots. Avoid leggy plants reaching for light — they indicate poor nursery management. Check the soil surface for pests and the underside of leaves for whitefly or mites. Gently lift the root ball — healthy roots are white, not brown or circling.
