What is the role of pH in plant disease?

Most vegetable pathogens thrive in acidic soil below pH 5.5. Maintaining pH 6.0–6.8 inhibits Fusarium, Pythium, and bacterial wilt while optimising nutrient availability. Lime or wood ash raises pH; sulphur or compost lowers it. Test pot soil pH annually using an affordable strip test available at Indian garden centres.
