How to grow banana from sucker?

Bananas propagate naturally via suckers (pups) emerging from the base of the mother plant. Choose a sword sucker — narrow, upright leaves — over a water sucker (broad leaves). Wait until the sucker is 45–60 cm tall. Sever cleanly with a sharp spade, retaining some roots. Plant immediately in a 25-litre pot with compost-rich soil. Water heavily. The new plant will fruit in 9–12 months. Each mother plant produces 4–6 suckers per year.
