Why is my turmeric not producing rhizomes?
Turmeric rhizome development requires: a deep container (12+ inches — shallow pots physically restrict rhizome spread); potassium-rich fertiliser applied at 3–4 months after planting; partial shade to prevent leaf scorch; and patience — rhizomes do not form until 6–8 months in. Harvesting too early (before leaves yellow in October–November) gives small underdeveloped rhizomes. Use fresh, plump planting rhizomes — old, dried ones have poor sprouting and yield.
